Amy and David Freeman, from Grand Marais, Minn., paddled, dog sledded, and hiked 11,647 miles across North America. When they skied across the Great Bear Lake in Canada, they encountered harshest weather, a ground blizzard with winds in excess of 40 miles per hour; they kept going…

Both of them are named among the National Geographic’s 2014 Adventurers of the Year. National Geographic recognized 13 individuals for their achievements in exploration, adventure sports, conservation or humanitarianism. I’m providing no link for the NG, it looks like you have to be a member of the National Geographic to access their photos. but Live Science has a few photos of the winners if you are interested.
